Tonga travel and visitor guide with hotel, airport, airline and vacation information. Compare Tonga vacation packages, hotels and cruise deals. Tonga is located in the very heart of the South Pacific lying east of Fiji and south of Samoa. It is one of the most scenic and unspoiled of the Pacific island nations. The culture of Tonga is real and is there for the visitors to the Kingdom to experience as Tongans go about their everyday life.
Tonga is served by Fuaamotu International Airport (Airport Code: TBU) in Tongatapu, Kuini Lavenia Airport (Airport Code: NTT) in Niuatoputapu and Nuku'Alofa (Airport Code: TBU). Airlines serving Tonga include American, Air New Zealand, Polynesian Airlines and Royal Tonga Airlines. Most direct flights connect from Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia. Visit our Airports & Airlines section for more information.
You can visit a museum, purchase handicraft, take part in a kava ceremony, see some of the best dancers in the land and taste a genuine Tongan feast. At the Centre you can trace the lineage of the Nobles of the Realm, see a 40ft model of the famous Tongan Kalia and see local historical artifacts. The adjacent gallery offers contemporary art and genuine cultural handicrafts. See tapa and Canoe making; wood carving; basket weaving and mat making.
Niuatoputapu is probably the most remote holiday destination you'll ever visit. A dot in the middle of the Pacific - part of Tonga yet closer to Samoa. So remote indeed that few Tongans themselves have ever visited.
There are 176 islands in the Kingdom of Tonga and to see all you need lots of time and your own boat. You can take a scenic adventure and fly with Peau Vava'u Airlines and enjoy a bit of yesterday in their classic DC3 or twice a week you can fly in their leased Dash 8. Visit the Official Tonga Tourism Site for more information.
